Swallows FC and AmaZulu introduced this weekend’s DStv Premiership action, with the Dube Birds falling short in a 3-2 loss at the Dobsonville Stadium on Friday night.

AmaZulu made their intentions clear from the outset and drew first blood courtesy of a 24th goal by Gabadinho Mhango. Keegan Allan then drew one back just before the half-time break and gave his side the lead in the 66th minute from the penalty spot.

An own goal by Thakasani Mbanjwa in the 79th meant that the two sides were level during a crucial phase of the game. Mbongeni Gumede then popped up to give Usuthu the lead in stoppage time.

On Saturday, Golden Arrows and TS Galaxy got proceedings underway at the Princes Magogo Stadium, recording a 0-0 stalemate in Durban. The tie was short of attacking action, with Galaxy having the slight edge in terms of ball possession and completed passes.

Sekhukhune United hosted Mamelodi Sundowns at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, in what was a keenly anticipated fixture heading into the weekend.

Peter Shalulile got his name on the scoresheet just as the first-half drew to a close, capping off a swift passing move on the edge of the Sekhukhune area. As the referee introduced the second-half, Sekhukhune drew level straight after the restart courtesy of a captain’s effort by Linda Mntambo.

In the Cape Derby, Cape Town City and Stellenbosch could not get the better of each other and recorded a 1-1 draw at the Cape Town Stadium. It was a South American affair regarding the scoreline, as Darwin Gonzalez and Junior Mendieta got their names on the scoresheet for the Western Cape outfits.

Elsewhere, Maritzburg United banked maximum points in a 2-1 win over Chippa United at the Harry Gwala Stadium, while a 10-man Kaizer Chiefs outfit recorded a 1-0 win over Richards Bay to end Saturday’s list of fixtures.

On the final day of this weekend’s action, Royal AM and Marumo Gallants shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday, while SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates failed to wow fans at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in a 0-0 stalemate.
