Pyramids head coach Takis Gonias claims his team could have won their maiden Egyptian Premier League title had luck been on their side this season.
The Cairo club trail league leaders Zamalek by seven points with three matches left to play after they crushed Smouha 5-1 at the 30 June Stadium on Friday.
The White Knights will retain their crown if they beat Al Ittihad on Tuesday, which would make it 11 wins on the spin for the champions-elect.
However, Gonias reckons Pyramids have been the better side in 2021/22 and suggested they might have won the league if they got the rub of the green.
Speaking after their impressive performance against the Blue Wave, he said: “The victory is very important and puts the team in a good position in the league table.
“The team did not play at the required level in the first half, but we improved in the second half and the players showed what they can do and deserved three points as a result.
“It was important to get the maximum points and our third straight win since the defeat to Zamalek even though we have injuries.
“In my opinion, Pyramids is the best team in the Egyptian Premier League and deserve to win the title had we been luckier in some games.”
