South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs advanced to the 2022 MTN8 semi-finals after registering victories on Sunday.

Sundowns produced a strong second-half display in their 2-0 victory over their city rivals SuperSport United in a Tshwane Derby match which was played at the Tuks Stadium.

Masandawana’s two goals were netted by Marcelo Allende and Abubeker Nasir who were both introduced in the second-half and they proved to be inspired substitutes for the DStv Premiership champions.

Meanwhile, Chiefs, who are 15-time MTN8 champions, showed character as they came from behind to defeat Stellenbosch FC 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in a quarterfinal match at the Danie Craven Stadium.

Sihle Nduli opened the scoring to hand Stellies, but Ashley du Preez scored to level matters for Amakhosi who went on to win 4-3 on penalties with Itumeleng Khune being the hero in the penalty shootout.

Chiefs and Sundowns joined AmaZulu FC and Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals with the draw set to be conducted on Monday.
