According to former Premier League stars Peter Crouch and Rio Ferdinand, Liverpool’s struggles in the Premier League is down to the gap left by Sadio Mane, who joined Bayern Munich ahead of the 2022/23 season.
In search of a new challenge, Mane left the Reds at the beginning of the season, ending a successful six-year spell with the English giants. While the Senegalese star hit the ground running in Germany, his former side have been struggling in the Premier League.
Off the back of a frustrating 0-0 draw against Everton in the Merseyside Derby, Crouch mentioned that Liverpool are missing Mane’s clutch performances while Ferdinand agreed that his attacking threat is missing in the final third.
“So many times Mane has come up trumps in these games where its tight, backs against the wall and they’re missing him,” Crouch explained as per The Mirror.
“Hindsight is a wonderful thing, Nunez will come good Im sure.”
The Manchester United legend also mentioned that while Liverpool are struggling in attack, the club needs to sort out their midfield issues.
“That’s a great point,” Ferdinand said.
“Those penetrating runs from out to in to support the centre-forward, that’s a big threat they aren’t getting as much or the balls not being played or is it they’re not running as much?
“There are a few things to work out but the midfield area is the critical area.”
