The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that Asante Kotoko have been granted permission to use the Baba Yara Stadium for their home matches in the CAF Champions League.
The Porcupine Warriors previously hosted continental ties at the Accra Sports Stadium as their home ground did not meet the requirements set forth by the Confederation of African Football.
However, the Ghana Premier League champions worked alongside local authorities to ensure that the stadium was up to CAF’s standards.
Seydou Zerbo’s side will now entertain Burkinabe Premier League winners RC Kadiogo in Kumasi on September 18 in the second leg of the first preliminary round.
“Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s CAF Champions League preliminary stage second round match against RC Kadiogo will be played at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi,” the GFA announced in a statement.
“This comes after the CAF Club Licensing department granted Asante Kotoko SC license to use the Baba Yara Stadium for its home matches.
“The collaborative work between the Club, GFA and the National Sports Authority ensured that the Stadium meets the club licensing requirements.”
Asante Kotoko last featured in Africa’s premier club competition during the 2020/21 campaign, making it to the first round before being eliminated by Al Hilal of Sudan.
