Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has revealed that the injury he sustained in the 4-1 win over Liverpool on Wednesday is not a bad as first feared.
The Nigeria international, who failed to convert an 18th-minute penalty, was forced off in the 41st minute of the UEFA Champions League clash at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
The Partenopei tore the Reds apart in their Group A opener as goals from Piotr Zielinski (5′ PEN, 47′), Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa (31′) and Giovanni Simeone (44′) ensured a winning start to their European campaign.
Osimhen was seen clutching his hamstring prior to being substituted, but the 23-year-old doesn’t believe the injury will keep him on the sidelines for an extended spell.
“I don’t think it’s that bad but this is football, you have to expect something like this. I just have to keep moving and work on my comeback,” he told journalist Oma Akatugba after the match.
“It’s football, it’s not new. I’ve been receiving positive messages. Thanks to those that actually cared and reached out to me immediately.
“For those that believe in me, I’ll have to come back and continue to give my best and give my all for the team and myself. And of course, the future is bright.”
