Despite being ruled out with injury ‘for a while’ according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Naby Keita was recently called up to the Guinean national team with the national team coach providing an update on the midfielder’s fitness.

Earlier this season, Klopp mentioned that Keita would be sidelined for an extended period through injury. The Reds are currently going through a mini-injury crisis, particularly in midfield, which forced the club to go into the market in signing Arthur Melo in the recent transfer window.

Keita has not featured for the English giants since the Community Shield tie against Manchester City, having battled with illness and injury ever since.

Now though, it’s been reported that Keita had been called up to the Guinean national team with coach Kaba Diawara explaining that the Liverpool midfielder is on the mend.

“His situation is improving and he is even ahead of schedule,” Diawara said as per Liverpool ECHO.

“We took a group of 24 players precisely to give him a chance to be able to count on him because he is very important player for us, on and off the pitch, he is our captain.

“We are monitoring his situation very closely. We still have a little over two weeks before our first game.

“Chances are we could get him back by then.”
