Mamelodi Sundowns toppled Orlando Pirates from the top of the DStv Premiership standings after defeating Lamontville Golden Arrows on Saturday.

Sundowns registered their second consecutive win when they edged out Arrows 2-1 at the ABSA Tuks Stadium in Pretoria and they leapfrogged Pirates on the standings.

The Tshwane giants’ talisman Peter Shalulile netted his sixth goal of the season, while Pule Mmodi continued his scoring form – netting his third goal in as many matches.

Pirates returned to winning ways when they secured a 2-0 win over TS Galaxy courtesy of Zakhele Lepasa’s first-half brace at the iconic Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

As a result, the Buccaneers are placed second on the league standings – two points behind leaders Sundowns who are looking to retain their Premiership title.

Meanwhile, Chippa United began life with coach Daine Klate with a 2-1 win over AmaZulu FC at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday afternoon.

The win elevated the Chilli Boys, who were under the guidance of coach Siyabulela Gwambi, to the 13th spot on the league standings – climbing out of the relegation zone.

Lastly, Stellenbosch FC snapped their four-match winless run across all competitions when they defeated Swallows FC 2-1 at the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg.

Junior Mendieta’s winning goal propelled Stellies to the eighth spot on the league standings, while Swallows are now winless in two matches.
