Accra Great Olympics have announced the appointment of Yaw Preko as their new head coach on the eve of the new Ghana Premier League season.

Oly Dade finished fifth last term under the guidance of Annor Walker, who subsequently resigned to take charge of newly-promoted Samartex.

The new campaign got underway on Saturday as the capital club beat Bechem United 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium, just a few hours after Preko returned to the helm on a two-year deal.

The 48-year-old had previously held the reins on an interim basis two seasons ago before he accepted an offer to coach league rivals Medeama in March 2021, although his tenure lasted just five months.

Great Olympics managed to finish ahead of neighbours Hearts of Oak last season, but they will be looking to challenge for a first league title in 49 years under the stewardship of Preko.

Next up is a derby against the Phobians on September 16 as they go in search of a third successive win over their local rivals.
