A much-needed come-from-behind 2-1 triumph for Kaizer Chiefs over SuperSport United at FNB Stadium headlined Saturday’s DStv Premiership action, with Golden Arrows and Chippa United also victorious through the day.

The Amakhosi came into the fixture under fire thanks to a three-match winless run which had seen them slip to just above the relegation zone in the league standings, and things looked set to get even worse when Matsatsantsa claimed the ascendancy through Grant Margeman.

Yet a brace from striker Caleb Bimenyimana turned the game in their favour, securing a first league win in almost a month and lifting them to ninth place on the log – level with seventh-placed United on 11 points.

Golden Arrows put in the performance of the day to thrash Swallows FC 4-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium in an afternoon kick-off. Abafana Bes’thende were irresistible in attack, striking via Nduduzo Sibiya (twice, once from the penalty spot), Pule Mmodi and a stunning volley from Nqobeko Dlamini.

Marumo Gallants, meanwhile, remain the only winless team in the division after they were beaten 1-0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium by Chippa United, for whom substitute Ronaldo Maarman struck early in the second half to decide the game.

Gallants then dropped to the bottom of the log when the early-evening game ended 1-1 between former basement dwellers Sekhukhune United (who have themselves gone six league matches without a victory) and Stellenbosch at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Babina Noko looked on course for a first win since early August when Tshegofatso Mabasa put them ahead in the first half, but Stellies levelled early in the second through Sinethemba Mngomezulu.

The DStv Premiership will continue with two further matches on Sunday 18 September, as Mamelodi Sundowns host AmaZulu in Tshwane and TS Galaxy visit Richards Bay at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
