Currently part of the Tottenham Hotspur Academy set-up, former Manchester City stat Yaya Toure is now helping the England Under 21 side to prepare for their upcoming matches.
The England U21 squad is currently preparing for matches against Italy and Germany, with the Ivorian said to be helping the team alongside ex-teammate Joleon Lescott.
According to the Daily Mail, Toure travelled to St George’s Park to work with head coach Lee Carsley, as he looks to complete his coaching badges, which is believed to be nearing its completion.
After a training session, 20-year-old City defender, Taylor Harwood-Bellis said that he was pleasantly surprised to see the ex-Citizen in the flesh and that the squad can draw inspiration from legends like Toure.
“I didn’t know he was going to be here so when I first saw him it was a bit of a shock,” Harwood-Bellis said according to the Daily Mail.
“Obviously he’s a big legend at City and I’ve grown up watching him so it’s surreal seeing him in the flesh.’
“He’s (Toure) just come to watch a couple of sessions. We were asked if it’s something he could do. He is starting his journey and is working with Spurs Under 16s.
“He knows Joleon well and has the connection with (technical director) John McDermott so it’s a good chance for him. It’s always good to have players like that around our players — inspirations who have been there and done it.”
