Algeria star Riyad Mahrez has expressed a desire to see out his career at Manchester City as he targets more success with the Premier League champions.
The 31-year-old winger scored 11 goals in 28 games last season to help the Citizens retain the league title and was rewarded with a new contract in July.
Mahrez has made a major impact for Pep Guardiola’s side since his arrival from Leicester in July 2018, registering 63 goals and 46 assists in 198 appearances across all competitions.
The Fennec Foxes captain is hungry for more silverware, having won eight trophies during his time at the Etihad Stadium, where he hopes to end his career as a player.
“I definitely want to finish my career at City and play as long as I can. I think I can still play for a long time,” he told the club’s official website.
“We’ll see what the future holds after football. I don’t know. I’m still thinking. I love football so it’ll be difficult to come out of it.”
Mahrez admits football was the only career he wanted to pursue and he is fortunate that the sacrifices he made in his youth has paid off.
“Yeah, I always wanted to be successful in football, that was my only target,” he said. “Some people want to be successful in a few things, for me the only thing was football.
“I left school at 17 and went 100 per cent on football, I tried to give it my all and fortunately I made it. It wasn’t easy, it still isn’t, but you have to make a lot of sacrifices. At the end, when you do everything, it’s your destiny.”
