Tuesday’s DStv Premiership action saw Stellenbosch and SuperSport United gain ground on the DStv Premiership frontrunners, while Marumo Gallants finally recorded their first victory of the season.

The evening got underway with Sekhukhune United pulling off a surprise 2-0 win over Orlando Pirates in the early kick-off at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The game appeared to be heading for a draw when two late goals from Elias Mokwana (84′) and Vusimuzi Mncube (90+1′) handed Babina Noko all three points, which took them up to 11th place as the Buccaneers slipped to fourth in the standings.

Stellenbosch were the highest climbers on the day as they rose up to fifth position courtesy of a 3-0 victory over struggling Maritzburg United at the Danie Craven Stadium.

An own-goal from Thabo Moloisane (24′) gave the Maroons the lead, with Antonio Van Wyk (58′) and Sinethemba Mngomezulu (65′) wrapping up the win in the second half.

Elsewhere, SuperSport United moved up to third place following their 3-1 success against Royal AM at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.

All four goals came in the second half as Thamsanqa Gabuza (59′) opened the scoring before Mfundo Thikazi levelled matters 15 minutes from time, although parity lasted just six minutes as Grant Margeman (81′) and Bradley Grobler (90+4′) secured a first-ever win over the team from Durban, who dropped down to sixth position.

Meanwhile, Dan Malesela made a winning return to Marumo Gallants as they edged TS Galaxy 1-0 at the Mbombela Stadium, while Golden Arrows and Cape Town City shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

Sede Dion struck in the 38th minute to get Gallants’ campaign up and running as they finally climb off the foot of the table up to 14th spot, just one point and one place behind the Rockets.

Abafana Bes’thende had led for 57 minutes after Kajally Drammeh had opened the scoring in the 27th minute, but Divine Lunga pounced six minutes from time to clinch a point for the Citizens.

Tuesday’s results:

Sekhukhune United 2-0 Orlando Pirates

Golden Arrows 1-1 Cape Town City

Stellenbosch 3-0 Maritzburg United

SuperSport United 3-1 Royal AM
