Jeunesse Sportive de Kabylie coach Abdelkader Amrani has warned his team to avoid overconfidence in their pursuit of a place in the CAF Champions League group stage.
The Algerian club is well placed to advance into the final 16 of the premier continental competition following a 2-1 away win over Togo’s ASKO Kara this past weekend in the first leg of a second preliminary round tie.
Goals from Mostapha Alili and Mohamed Ouattara secured the triumph in Lome for JSK, who are scheduled to host the return game in Setif on Saturday evening.
The aggregate winners will advance into the group stage, while the losers will ‘drop’ into the playoff round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
“It’s true that we have taken a big option for qualification, but nothing is certain for the moment. You must not give up, because there is still a second leg to play with us,” said Amrani, as quoted by Competition.dz.
The JSK coach added that the return game will not be a formality: “We have to avoid overconfidence. We have to take the game very seriously so as not to be surprised on our pitch. We have to forget this victory [in the first leg] and only think about the second leg.”
JSK are looking to reach the group stage for the first time since the 2019-20 edition of the competition.
