TP Mazembe president Moise Katumbi has sacked the club’s head coach Franck Dumas following the team’s shocking defeat to Vipers SC.
The DR Congolese football powerhouse was eliminated from this season’s CAF Champions League by the Ugandan side who won 4-2 on penalties at home in DR Congo on Saturday in the second round tie following a 0-0 draw on aggregate.
Katumbi also suspended the club’s executive committee and only the club secretary looks set to survive the wielding axe according to the following statement.
“This Saturday, October 15, 2022, President Moïse Katumbi and the coach, Mr. Franck Dumas, separated amicably,” a club statement read.
“The president thanked the coach for the work accomplished and wished him a good journey. Mr. Franck Dumas, meanwhile, expressed his wishes for full success to TP Mazembe and its supporters.
“President Moïse Katumbi took the decision to suspend the Committee with immediate effect, with the exception of the Secretary of the team, Mr. Hilaire Kabila, who remains in office. Done in Lubumbashi, October 15, 2022.”
Mazembe are one of the biggest clubs in Africa and they have won the Champions League title five times having clinched the trophy in 1967, 1968, 2009, 2010, and 2015.
The DR Congolese giants will now take part in the 2022-23 CAF Confederation Cup playoff round draw on Tuesday following their elimination from the Champions League.
