Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena praised his side’s efforts following their 5-0 DStv Premiership victory over Martizburg United on Tuesday night and described their performance as ‘aggressive’.

After being announced as the club’s head coach this week, Mokwena and company did well to put their MTN8 semi-final loss to Orlando Pirates behind them. As they bounced back in style, Downs showcased their dominance against a spirited Team of Choice outfit at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

In voicing his thoughts on the game, Mokwena lauded his team’s aggression and ability to break down a stubborn Maritzburg defence.

“We were very aggressive today in transitions, aggressive on regains, we showed a lot of hunger today which is good to show the right mentality, to respect the brand, to respect the club,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV.

“Especially after what happened on the weekend, so congratulations to the boys and congratulations to the entire club.

“Now we just have to stay humble, you know and show the same hunger in the next match.”

“A pitch that suits a low block and the possibility to spread themselves across the pitch and we did very well with our speed of the ball today.

“And the speed without the ball because they are a very good side, don’t take the score as an indication of the level of opposition.”
