Saturday’s action in the DStv Premiership was headlined by a win for Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby, while log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns stretched their lead to six points with a thumping victory in Durban.

The headline match at FNB Stadium was decided by a world-class strike from Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart, who struck an astonishing long-range goal from inside his own half to hand his side a 1-0 triumph over Orlando Pirates in the derby.

The victory was no less than the Amakhosi deserved, having dominated most of the match and only been denied by some fine saves from Siyabonga Mpontshane – though it was the goalkeeper’s positioning well off his line which ultimately cost his side in the match.

The first of two evening games saw Marumo Gallants pick up just their second win of the season – and rise well clear of the relegation – as they defeated Cape Town City 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa won the match courtesy of a brace from Ranga Chivaviro, whose second came five minutes into extra time at the end of the 90 – with the Citizens thinking they had earned a point with Wayde Lekay’s late equaliser.

At Chatsworth Stadium in Durban, Mamelodi Sundowns cruised to a 3-0 win over Royal AM. The Brazilians racked up a sixth straight league victory thanks to goals from Neo Maema, Cassius Mailula and Surprise Ralani, taking them six points clear of nearest chasers Richards Bay.

As for Thwihli Thwahla, this is a fourth defeat from their last five league outings and leaves them in eighth place on the log, a full 12 points off the pace set by Sundowns.

The DStv Premiership will continue on Sunday 30 October with four further matches, before going into a two-month recess due to the 2022 World Cup being played in November and December.

DStv Premiership results, Saturday 29 October
