Chiefs, Sundowns secure DStv Prem wins

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns recorded victories in the South African top flight, DStv Premiership.


An increable long-range strike by Yusuf Maart earned Chiefs a 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium on Saturday in a match that headined this weekend’s action.


At the Chatsworth Stadium, Mamelodi Sundowns opened a five-point lead at the top of the standings after thrashing Royal AM 3-0 and it was their sixth consecutive league win.


The action started on Friday with Ryan Moon scoring twice to propel Lamontville Golden Arrows to a 2-0 win over Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium.


While coach Dan Malesela mastermind Cape Town City’s downfall at Peter Mokaba Stadium where Marumo Gallants emerged as 2-1 winners on Saturday.


Four matches were played on Sunday with AmaZulu FC securing a 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC at the King Zwelithini Stadium thanks to Larry Bwalya’s first-half goal.


There was a six-goal thriller at the Bidvest Stadium where Chippa United came from 2-0 down at half-time to hold Richards Bay to a 3-3 draw in an enthralling encounter.


At the Lucas Moripe Stadium, SuperSport United dropped points when they drew 1-1 with Swallows FC who netted in the last minute through Lindokuhle Mtshali.


Lastly, Sekhukhune United fought back to hold TS Galaxy to a 1-1 draw as Victor Letsoalo cancelled out Xola Mlambo’s opening goal at the Mbombela Stadium.
