A former Liverpool star has branded Naby Keita as being the worst signing made under Jurgen Klopp given his injury laden spell at the club.
During Liverpool’s resurrection as a powerhouse in European football, Keita joined the club as a marquee signing in 2018. At the time, Keita was emerging as one of the best central midfielders in the game however, injuries halted the Guinean’s progress at Anfield.
After making a £52.7 million switch from RB Leipzig struggled to get a regular run in the team and made just 117 appearances for the club since then. In the 2022/23 campaign, Keita made one appearance for Liverpool, as he featured in the Red’s 3-1 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield.
Currently nursing a hamstring injury, former Red Danny Murphy said that among Klopp’s big name signings, Keita ranks as the worst of the lot.
“Although you like more choices, Oxlade-Chamberlain is never fit, Keita’s probably been the worst signing out of the big ones,” Murphy said.
“All others have done well.”
