Maritzburg United are on the lookout for a new head coach after they announced the departure of John Maduka and his technical team on Thursday.
Maduka had only been appointed to the helm in June following the dismissal of Ernst Middendorp at the end of last season, but his tenure lasted just 13 games.
The 52-year-old, who had done an outstanding job at Royal AM, struggled to get results with the Team of Choice, although he felt that progress was being made this term.
However, Friday’s 2-0 defeat to KZN rivals Golden Arrows was the final straw as the board decided to act with the club rooted to the foot of the DStv Premiership table on 11 points.
“The board have taken this decision after a review of performances and results from the beginning of the season to date,” Maritzburg chairman Farook Kadodia said in a statement.
“When we appointed John at the beginning of the season, the mandate and objective was to see an improvement in performances and results which, however, have not been achieved despite everyone’s best efforts.
“We believe that with the upcoming Fifa World Cup break, the timing is right to make these changes now.”
Maduka departs the Harry Gwala Stadium having won two, drawn five and lost six of his 13 matches in charge of the team.
