New Hearts of Oak head coach Slavko Matic intends to create competition for places in the team to keep everyone on their toes for an assault on the Ghana Premier League title.

The season resumed on October 29 after an enforced four-week break and Matic made a winning start to his tenure as the Phobians beat Bibiani Gold Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Matic’s side followed it up with a 1-0 victory over Kotoku Royals at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Saturday to move up to seventh position in the standings.

The Serbian tactician anticipates a gruelling campaign when the action recommences after the World Cup break and he wants to give the Accra giants more options going forward.

“I want to bring competition in the team,” Matic said after the win in Cape Coast. “I have said I want to get a better option for us, we have a lot of games and every player would play.”

Commenting on the performance against the newly-promoted Royals, the 46-year-old felt his players could have been more proactive in possession during the second half, but was happy with the outcome.

“We must play more with the ball like we did in the first half,” he added. “We created more chances in the second half but we sat back a little, we should have changed the system and formation but we did what is necessary for the team.”
