Following a run of four victories on the spin, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has lauded his players ‘humility’ in accepting the recent changes at the club.

Last month, Mokwena took over as the Chloorkop side’s new head coach after a period of ‘poor performances and unconvincing victories’, as described by the club. In turn, Steve Komphela was promoted to become the First Team coach, while Manqoba Mngqithi was demoted to the Senior Coach position.

Now though, Mokwena has praised his side’s efforts in accepting the coaching overhaul and that their first mandate will be to win football matches.

“I always say to you that the game belongs to the players,” Mokwena said according to the Sowetan.

We’ve little control over what happens over 90 minutes. We can change things and influence with subs, but huge credit has to go to the Sundowns players for accepting the change in the leadership.

“That takes a lot of humility and devotional acceptance. Also, with the fact that we need to play with a little bit of personality and that’s what we continued to do.”

“We have a responsibility and the first immediate mandate is to win football matches. We’ve put a lineup without any sort of bias in relation to whether the player is young or old.”
