Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos insists he was left with little option but to call up Bathusi Aubaas as a late replacement for Lyle Foster.
Broos is preparing his squad for the upcoming friendlies against Mozambique and Angola but Foster was conspicuous in his absence when the players got together at the Mbombela Stadium on Monday.
The 22-year-old forward has impressed for Westerlo in the Belgian Pro League this season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 16 appearances.
Foster missed the September friendlies against Sierra Leone and Botswana through injury but was recalled for the November encounters, which will both take place in Mbombela.
However, Broos has turned to TS Galaxy midfielder Aubaas after revealing that his attempts to reach out to Foster were met with silence.
“Until this morning at 11am [Monday] we didn’t have an answer from him, therefore we decided to call Aubaas from Galaxy,” the Belgian tactician said at a press conference.
“The rest of the guys who are selected are there. We sent a call-up yesterday [Sunday] morning and we tried to call him and send messages but there was no answer. We then decided to cancel his selection and take Aubaas.”
