Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk recently named the best players he played alongside and in turn, held the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in high regard.
During spells with Southampton, Liverpool and the Netherlands national team, the towering defender played alongside some of Europe’s most elite footballers. However, at the top of the list, van Dijk regards Roberto Firmino as the best player he has played with.
The Dutchman highlighted the Brazilian’s movement as one of his best attributes and that he is a tricky customer to deal with on the training pitch. That said, the 31-year-old also rated Salah and Mane as some of the best players he shared the pitch with.
“I would say at Liverpool probably Bobby Firmino,” van Dijk said on the Pitch Side Podcast, as per HITC.
“Yeah, also knowing how difficult it is to play against him as a defender. He drops deep and all of this stuff.
“So I can say Bobby Firmino, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Thiago.
“It has been a joy to play with all these guys.”
