Egyptian Premier League title hopefuls Pyramids have announced that Takis Gonias has been relieved of his duties as head coach.
The Greek tactician returned to the 30 June Stadium for a second spell in April 2022, having initially held the reins for just over two months the previous year.
Gonias guided the Cairo outfit to an unprecedented second place in the league last season and they made a promising start to the new campaign, going unbeaten in their opening five matches.
However, the 51-year-old has paid the price for losing three of his last six games, including defeats to title rivals Zamalek and Al Ahly.
Pyramids confirmed Gonias’ departure just two days after the 3-0 loss to the table-topping Red Eagles at the Cairo International Stadium, which left the team seven points adrift of their city neighbours in fourth position.
“We would like to thank Takis Gonias and his backroom staff for the time they spent in charge of the football team,” the club said in a statement on social media on Wednesday.
Pyramids will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host fifth-placed Ghazl El Mahalla on Saturday.
