Algeria head coach Djamel Belmadi’s contract has been extended until 2026.

This is according to the president of the Algerian Football Federation, Djahid Zefizef who put an end to speculation surrounding Belmadi’s future.

The 46-year-old tactician has been in charge of the Desert Foxes since August 2018 and he failed to guide the team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.

“Belmadi’s contract has been extended until 2026 with objectives defined for the 2023 and 2025 AFCON finals,” Zefizef said on Afrik-Foot.

Belmadi guided the Desert Foxes to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in Egypt as they defeated Senegal in the final.

The former Algeria international subsequently led the Desert Foxes on a 35-match unbeaten run, which set a continental record.

He will be in charge of the team as they take on Niger in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers in March this year.
