SA legend on Sundowns latest 'challenge’

With a 14 point lead at the top of the DStv Premiership table, former Mamelodi Sundowns star Teko Modise explained the difficulties that lie ahead for the Brazilians as they eye a sixth straight league title.

Downs took on SuperSport United in their most recent league fixture and recorded a 1-0 win against their Tshwane rivals at Loftus Versfeld on Monday evening.

Rulani Mokwena’s side has now amassed 11 wins on the trot in the DStv Premiership, opening up a 14 point point gap between themselves and second-placed Richards Bay FC.

Speaking after Downs victory over SSU, Modise mentioned that remaining motivated will be important for the club as they deal with being at the top for so long.

“It’s one of the most difficult things to defend your title,” Modise said after the match, as per GOAL.com.

“Look at the points they’re leading with, Mamelodi Sundowns in the past have been so great if they are chasing the pack, now they needed to learn how to deal with being top.

“Now, you look at the points that they have, it is going to be a challenge to keep all the players motivated with the points they have in the bag.”
