Senegal-born France legend Patrice Evra strongly believes that the departure of Sadio Mane has played a large part in Liverpool FC’s poor form this term.
The Reds are currently languish in eighth in the Premier League standings with six defeats from their opening 19 games and they are already out of the race for the championship.
There are those who feel that the English giants need to reinforce their squad with top class midfielders, but Evra has his own theory about Mane who left Liverpool for Germany’s Bayern Munich last June.
“People don’t want to admit it but Sadio Mane leaving has damaged their season, I’m sure they will recover next season but not now,” Evra said on Mirror UK.
“I know things aren’t down to just one player, but he was a big part of Klopp’s plan and people don’t want to be honest about it.
“He was so important for this Liverpool team, he was the core of the team.”
Mane left the Reds having helped the team clinch last season’s Carabao Cup and FA Cup, while also finishing second both in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League with the Merseyside giants.
He has scored 11 goals and provided four assists across all competitions for Bayern this term and he is currently injured having picked up an injury during a Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen last November.
