Thomas Partey was one of Arsenal’s star performers in their 3-2 win over Manchester United in the Premier League this past weekend and subsequently caught the eye of Rio Ferdinand, who was left baffled by the African star’s pace.
The Gunners’ dreamy run at the top of the Premier League table continued on Sunday evening when they welcomed a red hot United outfit to the Emirates Stadium.
It was the Londoners who eventually prevailed in a dramatic 3-2 win, with Partey controlling matters in the middle of the park. Also, the Ivorian added his name to the highlight package of the game, when he matched United speedster Antony for pace during a crucial moment of the encounter.
Reflecting on Partey’s powerful run, Ferdinand said that he was surprised to see Partey burst past a player who is known for his pace and trickery.
“I’ve seen clips of him when he was at Ajax and he was somebody that used to beat people,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.
“I saw Partey, who I wouldn’t put down as a roadster, a sprinter – absolutely burst past him.
“Im thinking, ‘wow, he has got much power in those legs.”
