Mamelodi Sundowns extended their DStv Premiership winning streak to 14 games this weekend, while Orlando Pirates dominated a deflated Marumo Gallants in Phokeng.
Saturday’s DStv Premiership action commenced at Loftus Versfeld as Mamelodi Sundowns hosted an upbeat Sekhukhune United outfit.
As expected, Downs saw most of the ball throughout the encounter but struggled to break down the Babina Noko defence. However, Gaston Sirino found himself in an inviting position inside the penalty and let off a shot that was intercepted by Peter Shalulile, who guided the ball home.
Marcelo Allende received his marching orders with 15 minutes left to play, however that did not deter Sundowns who doubled their lead with around 10 minutes left on the clock. Cassius Mailula’s effort rounded off the scoreline as Downs recorded their 14th straight win in the DStv Premiership.
Swallows FC hosted SuperSport United at the Dobsonville Stadium this weekend, in what was a keenly anticipated fixture in the latest round of league fixtures.
However, the tie produced little goalmouth action as neither side were able to breach their opposite defences, with the game being jotted down a a 0-0 stalemate in Soweto.
In the last game of Saturday’s list of fixtures, Marumo Gallants hosted a spirited Orlando Pirates side at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
The Buccaneers looked impressive from the outset and bossed the possession count throughout the 90 minutes. Monnapule Saleng gave Pirates the lead in the 36th minute, while Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo’s 68th minute saw the Soweto giants walk away with a 2-0 victory.
