Southampton snap up Onuachu & Sulemana

Southampton FC announced the signing of Africans stars Paul Onuachu and Kamaldeen Sulemana on the Premier League transfer deadline day.


Nigeria international Onuachu has been snapped up from Belgian side KRC Genk, while Ghana international Sulemana has been signed from French outfit Stade Rennais.


Onuachu signed a contract until 2026 with the Saints having won the Belgian First Division A Top goalscorer and Belgian Professional Footballer of the Year awards during the 2020-21 season.


“Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce it has completed the signing of striker Paul Onuachu from Belgian club KRC Genk, subject to a work permit and international clearance,” a club statement read.


“The 28-year-old joins from the Jupiler Pro League leaders on a contract until 2026, becoming the fifth signing of the month for Nathan Jones’s squad, after the transfers of Mislav Oršić, Charly Alcaraz and James Bree, as well as fellow deadline-day arrival Kamaldeen Sulemana.”


Meanwhile, Sulemana, who is one of Africa’s most promising youngsters, signed a contract with Southampton until 2027.


“Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of forward Kamaldeen Sulemana from Rennes, subject to a work permit and international clearance,” a club statement read.


“The 20-year-old Ghana international has completed a deadline-day transfer from the French club on a contract until 2027.”


The Saints are scheduled to face Brentford FC in a Premier League match at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.
