Nigeria head coach Jose Peseiro has hailed the achievements of the Flying Eagles after they reached the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals to qualify for the Under-20 World Cup.
Ladan Bosso’s side recovered from a 1-0 defeat to Senegal in their tournament opener to finish second in Group A courtesy of victories over Egypt (1-0) and Mozambique (2-0).
The seven-time AFCON champions then beat Uganda 1-0 in the quarter-finals on Thursday to remain in contention for a record eighth title.
Peseiro recently travelled to Egypt to watch the youngsters in action and is expected to give a handful of them a chance to impress in training ahead of the March AFCON qualifying double-header against Guinea-Bissau.
The Portuguese tactician took to social media on Thursday night to salute the U20 team’s efforts in the tournament.
“Congratulations to our Flying Eagles, who have guaranteed a spot in U20 World Cup in May, as well as being through to the semi-finals of the U20 AFCON,” Peseiro said on Twitter.
The Super Eagles will host the Djurtus at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on 24 March before heading to Bissau for the return leg three days later.
