Vipers have appointed Alex Isabirye as their new head coach in a bid to save their faltering season after a poor showing both domestically and on the continent in 2023.
Beto Bianchi was relieved of his duties last week in the wake of a disappointing run of results, which saw the Brazilian fail to register a single win in his seven games at the helm.
Bianchi had only been handed the reins in December last year after compatriot Roberto Oliviera had taken the job at Simba, who were drawn in the same group as the Venoms in the CAF Champions League.
The Ugandan Premier League champions moved swiftly to announce Isabirye as his successor on Sunday and the former Cranes international has been tasked with turning the clubs fortunes around.
Vipers are bottom of Group C after picking up just one point from their opening four matches in Africa’s elite club competition and they need to beat Raja Casablanca and Horoya to stand a chance of progressing to the knockout stages.
Commenting on his appointment, Isabirye said: “I am very excited to be here and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and developing a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.”
Isabirye’s side welcome the Green Eagles to the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Saturday before making the journey to Conakry, Guinea on matchday 6 a fortnight later.
