Egyptian football analyst Khaled Bauomy has claimed that Mamelodi Sundowns did their best to prevent Al Ahly from qualifying for the CAF Champions League knockout stages last weekend.
The Brazilians, who have already booked their place in the quarter-finals, were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Hilal in Omdurman on Saturday, with Ronwen Williams saving a late penalty to deny the hosts all three points.
Victory for the Blue Wave would have eliminated the Red Eagles from Africa’s elite club competition despite the latter trashing Coton Sport 4-0 in Garoua, Cameroon on Friday.
Bauomy believes Sundowns attempted to aid Al Hilal’s cause on matchday 5 and is confident that Marcel Koller’s side will mete out justice to the Sudanese club at the Cairo International Stadium in the final round of the group stages.
“Sundowns did everything to help Al Hilal qualify and eliminate Africa’s bogeyman Al Ahly,” he said on Twitter. “However, God’s will and the prayers of Al Ahly fans stood against the desire of Sundowns.
“Soon, the response to heaven’s justice will be seen in the stadium that all Africa fears, the Cairo International Stadium.”
The encounter in Cairo will decide the fate of both teams, with Al Ahly trailing Al Hilal by three points in third place.
