The likes of Zambia and Ghana recorded hard-fought victories in their latest 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures this week.
To begin with, Zambia hosted Lesotho at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Thursday evening and secured maximum points the hard way. After conceding in the 12th minute, courtesy of a goalkeeping error by Toaster Nsabata, Zambia equalised four minutes later courtesy of an brilliant individual effort by Fashion Sakala.
Then, a second-half brace by Lameck Banda ensured Chipolopolo maximum points at home in a stunning 3-1 win. Zambia lead the way in Group H with six points after three matches played.
Elsewhere, Ghana recorded a dramatic victory over Angola this week, with the game taking place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars dominated the game throughout the 90 minutes and had double the amount of efforts at goal compared to their opponents. Ghana outclassed Angola in virtually every statistic on the pitch but were made to work for the points at the end of the day.
Ghana broke the deadlock in the 96th minute of the game, courtesy of an effort from Antoine Semenyo. The victory sees the popular nation top Group E with seven points, while the defeat leaves Angola trailing Ghana by three points in second spot.
