Saturday’s DStv Premiership action was headlined by a 2-1 home win for Orlando Pirates over Cape Town City, while Stellenbosch FC returned to form with an emphatic victory against Swallows FC.

Pirates kept up their push to end as runners-up behind already-crowned champions Mamelodi Sundowns by coming from a goal down to defeat City at the Orlando Stadium in an afternoon clash.

The Cape side claimed an early lead through Khanyisa Mayo, but the Buccaneers struck back via Terrence Dzvukamanja to level the game, before a 77th minute goal from Monnapule Saleng took the hosts to a fifth straight league win – and put them in pole position to claim second ahead of SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs.

Also in the afternoon, TS Galaxy scored a late equaliser to hold Royal AM 1-1 at the Mbombela Stadium and avoid a third straight league loss.

Thwihli Thwahla netted early via Elias Pelembe and appeared to have the game under control, but the Rockets hit back through Yaimil Medina in injury time to secure a share of the spoils.

The early-evening clash saw Stellenbosch return to winning form in the league with a 3-0 destruction of Swallows FC at the Danie Craven Stadium.

The Cape side triumphed thanks to a brace from Iqraam Rayners, and a late strike by Ibraheem Jabaar, pushing them up to sixth spot on the table, while the Birds are hovering just above the relegation playoff zone.

The weekend’s DStv Premiership will wrap up on Sunday with Sekhukhune United v Kaizer Chiefs at Peter Mokaba Stadium, followed by SuperSport United v AmaZulu at TUT Stadium.
