Al Ahly captain Mohamed El Shenawy has been handed a three-match ban for violent conduct following an incident in the 2-0 win over Smouha on April 17.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper was shown a straight red card in the 91st minute after he punched Smouha defender Ahmed Hakam in the face while making no attempt to challenge for the ball.
Egyptian Premier League authorities confirmed on Monday that El Shenawy has been suspended for three games as a result of his actions at the Borg El Arab Stadium.
The Egypt international will now miss the visit of ENPPI as well as the next two league encounters, although he will be available for the Egyptian Super Cup clash with Zamalek on May 5.
Ali Lotfi was brought on for the final few minutes against Smouha and is expected to continue in the absence of El Shenawy in goal as Marcel Koller’s side look to extend their lead at the top of the table in the coming weeks.
