Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller insists they won’t underestimate ES Tunis on May 19 despite gaining the upper hand in the CAF Champions League semi-finals with a 3-0 victory in the first leg on Friday.
A goal in each half from Percy Tau (8′, 55′) put the Red Eagles in the driver’s seat at the Hammadi Agrebi Stadium in Tunis before Kahraba sealed the win 15 minutes from time.
The 10-time African champions are overwhelming favourites to reach the final for the fourth year running as they’ve yet to lose to the Blood and Gold in eight meetings on home soil in the competition.
However, Koller is keen to avoid complacency in Cairo and cited examples of how teams managed to overturn deficits in the UEFA Champions League against all odds.
“We are so happy to win 3-0 away from home. However, that doesn’t mean we have already qualified to the final,” the Swiss tactician said in the post-match press conference.
“Nothing is decided yet. We saw when Liverpool made a come back against Barcelona by scoring four goals. Also, Juventus managed to net three times away from home against Real Madrid.
“We should not imagine that things have been decided. We should not underestimate Esperance de Tunis in the second leg and be fully concentrated because everything is possible in football.”
