On the final day of the 2022/23 Motsepe Foundation Championship season, it was Polokwane City who gained automatic promotion to the PSL, leaving Cape Town Spurs and Casric Stars to partake in the promotion play-offs following their respective results this weekend.


Cape Town Spurs, who sat at the summit of the table going into their final match, only managed a 1-1 draw with the University o f Pretoria at Athlone Stadium. After conceding in the 77th minute, the Urban Warriors were made to work hard for a point, as Therlo Moosa leveled matters for his side in the 91st minute.


Casric Stars, who were likewise chasing automatic promotion to the PSL, could only manage a 2-2 draw with All Stars at the Tsakane Stadium. In leapfrogging both Casric Stars and Cape Town Spurs, Polokwane City powered their way back to the PSL courtesy of a 4-0 win over Pretoria Callies.


With Rise and Shine confirmed as 2022/23 Motsepe Foundation Championship winners, the Urban Warriors and Casric Stars will make one last bid for top flight football by partaking in the upcoming PSL Promotion play-offs.
