Guinea captain Naby Keita got a special tribute from Liverpool FC after the team’s clash with Aston Villa FC on Saturday night.
The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in their penultimate Premier League game of the season which took place at Anfield with Keita missing from the matchday squad due to an injury.
However, Keita appeared alongside Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as they were given a guard of honour by their teammates at the end of the match.
“Following the Reds’ final home fixture of the 2022-23 campaign, tributes were paid to the departing Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ahead of their embarking on new chapters in their careers,” a club statement read.
“Their teammates formed a guard of honour as supporters delivered a special send-off from the stands, while Sir Kenny Dalglish and LFC CEO Billy Hogan made presentations to each of the quartet on the pitch, to acknowledge all they have produced and achieved in a red shirt.”
Keita, 28, was signed by Liverpool in 2017 from German club RB Leipzig and completed the move a year later.
The midfielder won the UEFA Champions League in his first season with the Reds, and the FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League the following season.
He also lifted the UEFA Super Cup, FA Community Shield, FA Cup and Carabao Cup during his time with Liverpool while playing 129 matches and scoring 11 goals for the team.
