Liverpool’s new sporting director Jorg Schamdtke recently admitted to making a major error during Victor Osimhen’s time with Wolfsburg.
Schamdtke will replace Julian Ward as the Red’s new sporting director and will be tasked to oversee what is billing up to be a major rebuild at Merseyside.
The Former Wolfsburg chief, who tracked the progress of Osimhen during the Nigerian star’s time with the Bundesliga outfit, recently admitted to a glaring mistake made regarding the striker’s future at the time.
After a slow start to life with Wolfsburg, in which Osimhen went on a 16 game goal drought, the African star was then allowed to join Charleroi on-loan where he scored 20 goals during the 2018/19 season.
Osimhen was then offloaded and sold to Lille for £19m, a decision Schamdtke regretted at the time.
“It wasn’t a good move, in hindsight. When I came, he [Osimhen] was limping and running in circles,” Schamdtke told Kicker, as per the Mirror.
“I was told that the strikers we had weren’t good enough. The most important lesson is that you have to be patient with some transfers.”
