Al Ahly have received a massive boost against Wydad Casablanca with the news that up to 50,000 home supporters will be allowed to attend the first leg of the CAF Champions League final.
The Red Eagles are looking to beat Wydad in the competition’s decider for the first time in their quest to lift the coveted trophy for a record 11th time.
Marcel Koller’s side will host the defending champions at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, June 4 before heading to Casablanca seven days later for the second leg at what is expected to be a packed Mohammed V Stadium.
Egyptian security forces had initially only permitted an attendance of 20,000 at the stadium but Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi intervened on Wednesday after the club requested for that number to be increased.
“50,000 supporters would be present at Cairo stadium,” Ahly vice-president El-Amry Farouk announced on Facebook.
“Thanks to club president Mahmoud El-Khatib and thanks to security officials in the country.”
