Ghana head coach Chris Hughton has brought in Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer to replace Inaki Williams in the latest Black Stars squad.
This comes after Williams was ruled out of the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Madagascar due to a knee injury.
Königsdörffer, who plays for German club Hamburger SV, has one cap for the Black Stars having made his debut against Nicaragua on 27 September 2022
“Since a few weeks I’m playing with pain in my right knee,” Williams, who is on the books of Spanish side Athletic Bilbao, said on the Ghanaian Football Association (GFA).
“I’ve decided to play until the end of the season, but talking with the medical services, we’ve decided to stop and solve the problem to stay 100% at the preseason.
This decision wasn’t easy to take because I won’t be able to stay with my national team, Ghana the next meeting.
“I want to say that I am full commitment and I will come back with the Blackstars if the coach deems it appropriate next calls. Thank you four your support.”
Königsdörffer will join the squad in Accra when they commence camping on June 12 ahead of the qualifier.
The Black Stars will travel to Madagascar for the match which has been scheduled for June 18.
