It’s been reported that Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino would prefer Ivorian defender Kalidou Koulibaly stay at Stamford Bridge after being linked with a move away from the club.

The towering defender joined the Blues ahead of the 2022/23 campaign following a £33 million transfer from Napoli. As one of the game’s most sought after defenders, Koulibaly struggled to make a lasting impression as he came to grips with the rigors of the Premier League.

In turn, the African star was linked with a move away from the club, with Italy being spoken of as a possible destination. More recently, Koulibaly was said to be on the radar of Inter Milan however, it’s believed that Pochettino would want the center-back to stay at Stamford Bridge.

According to transfer specialist Dean Jones, the new Chelsea manager would prefer if Koulibaly stays, given the club’s investment in him.

“I think Pochettino would prefer him to stay, Jones told GiveMeSport.

“I think that the club’s stance is that they looked at this guy for a long time, they invested in it and they were confident they’d made a really good transfer and the first year hasn’t gone brilliantly.”
