The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has canceled the additional second preliminary of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The decision was taken by the African football governing body’s Executive Committee which is led by President Patrice Motsepe on Friday.
The 16 winning clubs of the second preliminary round will qualify for the group stage of both the Champions League and Confederation Cup in the 2023/2024 season.
CAF issued the following statement on Friday night.
“The Executive Committee approved the cancellation of the additional second preliminary of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup,” a statement read.
“This means that the 16 winning Clubs of the Second Preliminary round will qualify for the Group Stage of both the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2023-2024 season.”
The 2023/24 Champions League and Confederation Cup preliminary round matches are expected to start in August 2023.
