New Cagliari Calcio midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana has revealed his desire to play for the Black Stars of Ghana.

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder recently joined the Islanders from fellow Italian Serie club Hellas Verona on a long-term deal ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Sulemana, who was born in Sunyani, Ghana, has never represented his country of birth having left the West African country for Serie A side Atalanta BC as a child in 2018.

“I would love to play for Ghana, I love my country,” the promising player told the Cagliari’s official website.

Sulemana believes he has the qualities to be an important player for the Islanders who are under the guidance of veteran manager Claudio Ranieri.

“I love expressing my characteristics, whatever position the coach wants to put me in to help the team. If I had to choose, I would like to play central midfield,” he added.

“Knowing how to use both feet in football is essential and I’m improving a lot to grow in this respect. Shooting from a distance is definitely one of my main characteristics.”
