Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the departure of Cassius Mailula after he completed a move to Major League Soccer side Toronto FC on Friday.

The 22-year-old winger attracted interest from the Reds following a fantastic breakout season at Masandawana, which saw him win the DStv Premiership title.

The Brazilians announced last week that they were negotiating the possible sale of Mailula to an unnamed North American club and the deal has now gone through.

“The entire Yellow Nation sends its love and well wishes to our prolific young prodigy, Cassius Mailula!” Sundowns said on Twitter.

“May your star continue to shine brightly with @TorontoFC.”

The Canadian outfit signed Mailula on a three-year contract with an option of extending his stay for further 12 months and the club’s General Manager, Jason Hernandez, believes he will be a valuable asset to the team.

“We are very excited to welcome Cassius to our club and the city,” Hernandez was quoted as saying on the club’s official website. “He is a player that will bring a different dimension to our play on the pitch with his versatility, dynamic movement, and finishing ability with both feet.

“He will also provide us with a new young profile off the pitch, with his humility, grit, and ambition to reach the highest levels possible. We look forward to working with Cassius and are happy to have him in the TFC family.”
