Egyptian Premier League runners-up Pyramids FC have pulled off a coup with the capture of Fiston Mayele from Tanzanian champions Young Africans.
The DR Congo international had attracted widespread interest after playing a starring role for Yanga as they reached the CAF Confederation Cup final for the first time last season.
Mayele spearheaded their title challenge with seven goals to finish as top scorer in the competition and found the back of the net in the first leg of the decider against USM Alger.
The 29-year-old striker was previously linked with a move to South Africa, but the lure of CAF Champions League football proved too good to turn down as Pyramids FC prepare for their maiden campaign in the biggest club scene on the continent.
Mayele arrived in Egypt on Saturday and completed his medical ahead of signing a reported three-year contract at the 30 June Stadium.
“The Congolese leopard, Weston, finally arrives in Cairo. Welcome to our new striker, Miley,” the club confirmed on Twitter on Sunday.
Jaime Pacheco’s side were the second-highest scorers in the league last term behind champions Al Ahly and Mayele will vie for a place up front with Fagrie Lakay and Dodo Elgabas.
