Egyptian starlet Khedr seals Villa move

Aston Villa’s partnership with Egyptian Premier League newcomers ZED FC has started to bear fruit after Omar Khedr sealed a move to Villa Park on Monday.

The acquisition of the 17-year-old winger is seen as a major coup for the Villans as he had attracted widespread interest with his performances for the club formerly known as FC Masr.

Villa entered into an collaboration with ZED FC in April 2022 in order to aid the development of their young talent and invited Khedr for a trial after he impressed during a youth tournament involving the West Midlands giants.

The Egypt Under-17 international has penned a pre-contract agreement with Unai Emery’s side and will officially become a Villa player on 1 July 2024 after his 18th birthday.

“Aston Villa is pleased to announce the signing of exciting Egyptian talent, Omar Khedr, from Zed FC,” the Premier League club said in a statement on their official website.

“Khedr spent time earlier this month at Bodymoor Heath being shown around the High Performance Centre, meeting Unai Emery’s first-team stars as well as club legend and fellow Egyptian, Ahmed Elmohamady.”
