Senegalese starlet Pape Matar Sarr was showered with praise after Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with Manchester United on Saturday.

The 20-year-old opened the scoring as Tottenham claimed a 2-0 win over United in a Premier League encounter played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou was impressed by Sarr who is in his second season with Spurs having joined the club from France’s Metz in 2021.

“Yeah, brilliant. He’s been great from the moment I arrived. He’s got a great energy about him, but he’s got quality there too,” Postecoglou said on Football London.

“He’s one of those midfielders who causes the opposition real problems because whether it’s him running with the ball or without the ball, he runs forward.

“He runs aggressively and he disrupts the opposition. He’s just got a great temperament for a young guy. So really pleased for him.”

The promising midfielder has 14 caps for Senegal having made his debut for the Lions of Teranga on 26 March 2021 in an 2021 AFCON qualifier against Congo-Brazzavile.

Sarr was appointed a Grand Officer of the National Order of the Lion by President of Senegal Macky Sall following the nation’s victory at the 2021 AFCON finals in Cameroon.
